  • Increase practical, technical skills for all participants.
  • Develop active, multicultural learning network that explores issues related to the appropriate uses of technology in practice.
  • Create opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.
  • Raise awareness of the unique potentials of technology as a tool in growth and development of sustainable communities.

New brochure promoting the upcoming January 2012 learning exchange to Nicaragua. Our focus for this trip is coffee, crafts and culture. We’ll be in the heart of Nicaraguan coffee country to explore the history and culture of the region through stories and poetry. This is a great opportunity to spend 11 days in Nicaragua meeting and talking with smallholders in the rural areas of the coffee rich Matagalpa region.

During my last trip to Nicaragua I was listening to Sebastian, of La Hermandad, discuss the problems facing their cooperative and small producers in general, and was struck by the fact that I could hear the same conversation here in central New York. It seems to make sense to bridge the distance and share experiences, explore possible alternatives and learn together in order to shape a future that respects and rewards small producers in a just and equitable way.
This trip provides an opportunity to not only experience the culture and diversity of Nicaragua but to also build connections that can grow and sustain creative solutions to the common problems faced by small producers north and south.
